McKinney Community Remembers 9-Year-Old Amani Edwards After Fatal Drowning At Apex Centre Water Park

Amani Edwards, a 9-year-old child from the McKinney community, died after a drowning incident at the Apex Centre water park on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

City officials confirmed that the incident involved a child at the city-owned facility on Alma Road, and family members later identified the child as Amani Edwards.

On June 3, 2026, community members continued to mourn the sudden loss and shared support for Amani’s loved ones.

Officials said the case remains under review, and city leaders continue to cooperate with the agencies handling that process.

Relatives described Amani as a beloved child who brought joy to people nearby during nine meaningful years of life.

A family fundraising campaign had raised nearly $40,000 by Tuesday to help with funeral and related expenses.
